Do the ride and win a prize! All participants will be automatically entered into our raffle. Prize TBD by our fiscally conservative Board of Directors. rolleyes.gif

We're on for Sept 11 - 12! Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz and return, 50 miles each way x 2 days = 100 miles. That's the "short" option. "Long" option begins in SF on day one and links up with the "short" group in HMB; on day two, both groups terminate in HMB (carpools to be arranged). NOTE THAT THIS IS A B-C PACED RIDE. WE RATE IT AS 3/B-C/50 EACH DAY (90 MILES THE FIRST DAY FOR LONG RIDERS). YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SUSTAIN 10MPH AVG FOR THE DISTANCE YOU PLAN. PLEASE HAVE YOUR BIKE SERVICED AND BE 100% ROAD-WORTHY BEFOREHAND - YOU'LL ENJOY THE RIDE THAT MUCH MORE!

PLEASE READ AND HEED THE FOLLOWING, AND FOLLOW THIS POST FOR DETAILS AS THEY EMERGE. EVERYONE WHO CONFIRMS A ROOM WITH AMY (SEE BELOW) IS "CONFIRMED" FOR THIS RIDE. IF YOU MAKE SEPARATE LODGING ARRANGEMENTS, YOU MUST CONFIRM YOUR PARTICIPATION WITH ME (RICK). AT THE END OF THIS POST, I LIST ALL WHO HAVE CONFIRMED AS RIDERS OR SAGS AS OF TODAY.

Things are shaping up nicely, thanks to Amy and the rest of our volunteers (Lisa, Lars, Miranda, Anthony, Barbara, Gwyn, and Ted). LODGING: NOTE THAT AMY HAS RESERVED A BLOCK OF ROOMS BUT THAT YOU MUST CALL AND RESERVE A ROOM ON YOUR OWN CREDIT CARD BY AUGUST 15TH OR RISK UNAVAILABILITY. IF THAT OCCURS, YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE YOUR OWN ARRANGEMENTS. ON AUGUST 16TH, WE WILL CANCEL ANY REMAINING ROOMS THAT WE'VE RESERVED:

The Mission Inn
2250 Mission St.
Santa Cruz
Phone: 1-800-895-5455
Fax: 831-469-4870

A block of 15 hotel rooms is reserved:
7 Rooms with a Single bed (king or queen). $100 per room for 1 night
8 Rooms with 2 beds (queen). $110 per room for 1 night
Prices are PER ROOM. Feel free to team up with someone to share the cost.

Most of the rooms with a single bed are on the ground floor. 2 of the 8 rooms with 2 beds are on the ground floor. The rest are on the second floor.
Bicycles can be stored in the rooms.

A continental Breakfast is included: served from 8-11am. However, we may be leaving too early on Sunday to take advantage of this free breakfast. The hotel has 2 courtyards that can be used for a post-ride get together. The courtyard closer to the office has multiple-tables, and we have asked to use that for our event. However, these areas are common spaces, are are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The rooms reservations are being held against my credit card. We will release all rooms on August 16th.

Here are the instructions to reserve one of these rooms by August 15th:

> Call the Mission Inn directly at 1-800-895-5455
> Indicate you are reserving one of the blocked rooms under Team Alameda (Amy Akashi)
> Provide your credit card to reserve the room
> If any questions, ask for Tom (the manager), or contact Amy at: a k a s h i a m y a t a o l d o t c o m.
> Let Amy know that you have reserved the room.

After August 15th, participants must make their own hotel accommodations.

Logistics on dinner and breakfast spots, as well as other details, are forthcoming. Our merry band of volunteers are busy putting together what we hope will be among your most memorable rides!

CONFIRMED PARTICIPANTS AS OF TODAY:

Amy
Rick (Short RL)
Lisa
Zoraida
Sweeps
Gwyn
Ted (SAG)
Stacie
Anthony (Long RL)
Barbara (SAG)
Lars
Miranda (SAG)
Flash
Flashette
Sri

(Others who expressed interest but have not yet confirmed: Harold, Eric, Rachel, Ron, McGyver, Rob, and circa3100).

Note: so far, I have only Anthony, Gwyn, and Stacie doing the long option (day one). We'll firm up final numbers as we approach ride day.

Please be kind to the many volunteers planning and executing this fabulous ride!

Rick

I just booked a room. I'm not sure if I going solo or have family joining me, I kind of expect the later. Got my New Bike yesterday! I'm looking forward to this ride, I've never done it before. I am planning on doing the longer ride (SF to Santa Cruz) and my wife and or daughter riding from Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz.

I was just invited to a friend of the family's 90th birthday party on Saturday 9/11 (11:30am - 3:30pm) and I feel I should and would like to attend. So, I'm wondering if anyone is driving down to Santa Cruz Saturday to attend the dinner or pick up a rider that could take me and my bike down, so that I could ride back to Half Moon Bay on Sunday.

Let me know, otherwise I will cancel my hotel room and hope the Team will repeat the ride next year!

Thanks,

Stacie

Are you joking again Ron? :-) I won't cancel my hotel if your family member can get me and my bike down there Saturday evening! I could be ready to leave at 4pm???

I'm not joking I ordered an new bike rack to hold 4 bike. I'm not sure if Teri and or my daughter Carrie will ride down from Half Moon Bay but someone will drive my truck and we can get your bike down there. I've always wanted to do this ride, I ace a room booked won't miss it. How much wine should I bring?

So, it looks like this might not work with Ron's family. Does anyone else know anyone that can get myself and my bike down to Santa Cruze Saturday night?

Let me know - I appreciate it.

Hi Stacie,

If you can get your bike, your car and your butt down to Santa Cruz I would be willing to to drive you back to your car after we finish up in Half Moon Bay on Sunday.

You're crazy, but we knew that with all the panniers you haul around! :-) Let's see if I get another offer that keeps us from driving back and forth. I may have to take you up on your offer or just wait for the next Santa Cruz ride.

Well there has been talk around the pasture that I might have mad Kow, but I had already declared myself unsane.
I'm thinking of running the panniers just to carry some beer for the trip though ; )~
Well keep me posted.

On behalf of the SC Ride Planning Committee, I just wanted to let everyone know that there will be no need for anyone to have to haul any beer or wine down for the post-ride festivities. So lighten those panniers, "Mad Kow" and Ron, and let us take care of the refreshments (including the adult beverages).

It looks like I may have to take you up on your crazy idea of driving back to Santa Cruz Sunday afternoon to retrieve my car.
