Time to gauge interest in a weekend ride from Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz (about 50 miles) and return the next day (overnight parking available in SC). Some riders may wish to ride from SF or the Peninsula. Many of us did this ride two years ago and still count it as one of our best ever.
This ride will be suitable for most B and C riders. We'll plan SAG support, transport your overnight bags, and arrange a block of rooms. Of course, we'll need some volunteers to make this work, and a couple of ride leaders to share duties along those long stretches of Hwy 1. All we need to start the planning is a reasonably good headcount. Possible dates are the weekend of September 11-12 or 25-26. Please register your interest here by May 15, 2010, and let me know if either weekend is problematic (I'll do my best to maximize participation). Also, if you can volunteer, or volunteer a family member, to drive/SAG and otherwise help make this happen, we'll all greatly appreciate it! Rick, thanks for getting the ball rolling on this fabulous ride. I'd love to do it again - 9/25-26 is open for me at this point.

I can do either weekend....but Waves to Wine is the 25/26th so that may be a conflict for some folks. -------------------- Life's tough--wear a helmet.

I realized I never responded to this post. I'm very interested and either weekend works, although 9/11-12 is better as I may do the Tahoe ride on the 25th.

The weekend of the 26th and 26th will work. The weekend of the 11th and 12th does not work because of the Second Sunday Slow Ride. Barbara wants to do SAG support on the SC ride. I plan on riding the SF to SC ride.

Hey Rick thanks for getting the going - I wasn't able to make it last time - Crumpet and I are very interested. I can help with ride leading duties on the way.

Rick I'm interested too far out to commit but I'm interested. I've wanted to do this ride for quite sometime. Of course if it works I'm willing to help lead, pull, sweep or whatever is needed.

It turns out that we are getting pressured to do the Waves-to Wine ride this year which would leave us out of the second proposed weekend. Thus, we would prefer that the Santa Cruz ride be the weekend of September 11-12.

Here's an online poll ... should be easier to keep track of the responses

when you create the post there is an option to create a poll and add questions. useful tool but seldom used. -------------------- What if the hokey pokey really is what it's it all about?

All: 16 members have expressed an interest (including Lars and Flash at the May Board meeting). Most are open for either of the proposed weekends; 5 prefer 9/11, and 2 prefer 9/25.
Based on your responses, I'll begin planning for the weekend of 9/11. Those of you who said they might be able to SAG, or who have in mind volunteering a family member to do so, now's the time to firm things up! Please let me know by 6/1/10 if you, or a family member, can SAG for us. We'll need at least two SAG wagons. Rick -------------------- The people you ride with are the ride.

If you insists on having it on the eleventh...
We need a Second Sunday Slow ride Leader to sub for us. If that happens; Barbara can drive SAG. Our car can hold 3 bikes and riders. She can carry food and drinks for rest stops. I can ride lead from SF to SC. Any volunteers? AD -------------------- I bicycle therefore I am

Ted is willing to drive SAG and help transport luggage to Santa Cruz. I have told him that he must try to avoid being on-call that weekend for work

Sri - I appreciate the input; however, my count included Amy and me and two others who did not respond to the poll or the forum, but who replied orally to me. I also counted couples responses separately in the weighting (the poll shows some couples as one reply). My numbers simply point out the number of "preferences," so I didn't include, in weighing preferences, all those who expressed no preference. I've now added you and "John" (unknown - maybe McGyer?) to my list. Brian actually will be riding with AV - we're not planning on a joint ride at this point. The outcome is the same in terms of the preferred weekend.
Anthony and Barbara - thanks. It occurs to me that prospective subs for the Sunday Slow Ride won't likely be following this thread - so if you haven't done so already, a post to that effect, linked to the ride calendar, might yield a volunteer. More to follow! Rick -------------------- The people you ride with are the ride.
